Maria.TV Privacy Policy
Equality Software Ltd · Company No. 15006381 · Last updated: November 2026
1. Who We Are
Maria.TV (the "app", Google Play package com.mariatv.iot) is provided by Equality Software Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales (Co. No. 15006381), Winchester House, 259-269 Old Marylebone Road, 2nd Floor, London NW1 5RA. We are the data controller for personal data processed through the app. Contact: ali.abdalla@softwareequality.com.
Maria.TV is a TV and media hub: it organises links to publicly available channels and services by country and category, plays streams, and offers companion features such as a remote control page, reminders, an AI assistant ("Talk to Maria") and AI Studio. The app does not require you to create an account.
2. Data We Collect
We collect only what each feature needs. Most features work entirely on your device.
- App preferences (on device only): your chosen country, language, categories, favourites, reminders, the start date of your 60-day free period and a small list of recently opened channels used to sort the list for you. These stay in the app's storage on your device and are not sent to us.
- AI assistant and AI Studio (only when you use them): the words you type or say, recordings you dictate, and photos or documents you choose are sent over an encrypted connection to our server and processed by Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) AI services (Generative AI, Language, Speech, Vision and Document Understanding) and, as a backup, an AI model provider (OpenRouter), only to produce your answer. We do not store them; Speech recordings are placed in temporary cloud storage only while they are transcribed and are then deleted. A random app identifier (not linked to you) is used to apply fair-use limits. Personal data detected in text you analyse is masked in the result.
- Reports about AI replies: if you report an AI reply, the reply, your question and your reason are kept so we can review and improve the assistant; reports are deleted after 12 months.
- Subscription: Google Play handles payment for MariaTV Premium. We receive only the purchase status and a purchase token from Google to unlock Premium; we never see your card details.
- Advertising data: Google AdMob may collect your device's advertising ID, approximate location (from your IP address) and ad-interaction data to show and measure ads, subject to your consent choices.
- Camera and microphone (optional, only when you use the feature): the camera is used for the in-app camera recorder; videos you record stay on your device. The microphone is used for voice commands and dictation. Video calls open Jitsi Meet in your browser, under Jitsi's own privacy policy.
- Phone calls: the dialer only hands a number to your phone's own calling app; you place the call there. We do not read your call log or contacts.
- Diagnostics: Google Play may provide us with anonymous crash and performance reports so we can fix problems.
We do not collect your name, email address, contacts or location, we do not keep the photos, documents, recordings or messages you send to the AI, and we do not sell personal data.
3. Permissions Explained
- Internet / network state: to load channel lists, play streams and reach the AI services.
- Camera, microphone: only for the camera recorder, voice commands and dictation you start. You can refuse or revoke these at any time in Android settings; other features keep working.
- Notifications: to remind you when a programme you chose is starting.
- Advertising ID: used by Google AdMob as described below.
Maria.TV does not ask for location, contacts, call-log, SMS or storage permissions. Photos and documents for AI Studio are chosen by you with Android's own picker.
4. How We Use Data
- To provide the app's features and remember your preferences on your device
- To answer your AI assistant and AI Studio requests
- To provide and manage your MariaTV Premium subscription through Google Play
- To show ads that keep the app free, and to measure them
- To keep the app secure, prevent abuse and fix crashes and errors
- To review reported AI replies and improve safety
- To comply with legal obligations
Lawful bases under UK GDPR: contract (providing the app, the AI features you request and your subscription), legitimate interests (security, abuse prevention, fixing errors, reviewing reports), consent (personalised advertising and optional permissions) and legal obligation.
5. Advertising
The app shows ads provided by Google AdMob. In the UK and EEA we ask for your consent through Google's consent tool before personalised ads are shown. You can change your choice at any time from Help > ad privacy choices in the app. You can also reset your advertising ID or opt out of personalised ads in your device's Google settings. See how Google uses information from apps that use its services.
6. Third-Party Content
Channels, websites and streaming services listed in the app are operated by third parties and open in your web browser or media player. Their own terms and privacy policies apply, and they may collect data under their own responsibility. Maria.TV only links to their official pages; it does not host, re-broadcast or control their content and is not affiliated with or endorsed by them.
7. Who We Share Data With
We share data only with service providers needed to run the app:
- Google (Google Play distribution and billing, crash reports, AdMob advertising and consent)
- Oracle (Oracle Cloud Infrastructure: our servers and the OCI AI services that answer your AI requests, UK South (London) region)
- OpenRouter (backup AI model provider, used only if Oracle's AI is unavailable)
We may also disclose data where required by law.
8. Security
Network connections to our services use encryption in transit where supported by the source. Preferences are stored in the app's private storage on your device. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information.
9. Retention and Deletion
Preferences stay on your device until you clear the app's data or uninstall the app, which deletes them. Text, recordings, photos and documents you send to the AI are processed and discarded; they are not stored. Reported AI replies are kept for 12 months. We do not keep an account or profile about you. Advertising and purchase data are retained by Google under its own policies. To ask about any data, email us using the contact above.
10. Your Rights
Under UK GDPR you have the right to access, correct, delete or port your data, to object to or restrict processing, and to withdraw consent at any time. Email ali.abdalla@softwareequality.com; we respond within 30 days. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office: ico.org.uk.
11. International Transfers
Our server and the Oracle AI services run in Oracle's UK South (London) region. Google and OpenRouter may process data outside the UK. Where this happens we rely on appropriate safeguards such as the UK International Data Transfer Addendum or Standard Contractual Clauses.
12. Children
Maria.TV is intended for adults (18 and over) and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children; if you believe a child has provided us with data, contact us and we will delete it.
13. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy as the app changes and will show the new 'last updated' date above. Our general website policy is at softwareequality.com/privacy.
